About the Property

Ma’alaea, Hawaii – Sleeps 6 | 2 bed, 2 bath | Ground floor

This bright and breezy ground-floor condo in Ma’alaea, Maui has been carefully renovated by its owners, Bruce (a C5/6 quadriplegic) and Amy, with one clear goal: to provide genuine wheelchair accessibility. Unlike many places that only claim to be accessible, this property has been designed with features that are truly usable.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit sleeps up to six and is only steps from the ocean. From the lanai, level access leads directly onto the beautifully maintained tropical grounds. Inside, the open layout feels spacious; moreover, the tiled floors (no carpet), easy-to-use door handles, and thoughtful furniture placement all enhance maneuverability for wheelchair users.

The master suite is especially well designed. In fact, the en suite bathroom includes a roll-in shower, ADA-height toilet with grab bars, roll-under sink, and a five-foot turning radius. Additionally, the bedroom itself features a king bed at ADA height with clearance for a lift, and it can be accessed from both sides, ensuring flexibility and ease of use.

Throughout the condo, you’ll notice many thoughtful touches. For example, remote-controlled ceiling fans and lighting, motorized drapes in the living room and master, and touch-control lamps all add convenience. Furthermore, the kitchen has been arranged with accessibility in mind, with everyday items stored within easy reach in lower cabinets. Guests also benefit from air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and complimentary calls to the mainland U.S. and Canada.

The Makani A Kai complex itself is small and peaceful, which makes it a restful place to stay. At the end of a quiet street, it provides free accessible parking and concrete pathways throughout. In addition, a raised lawn area offers improved ocean views from a seated position, while two accessible barbecues and a nearby communal laundry room make life easier for guests.

Location-wise, this condo is also centrally placed, which means it’s an ideal base for exploring Maui. Since it is in the United States, American travelers do not need a passport. What’s more, Maui offers accessible van rentals, medical equipment hire, and care support services if needed. As a result, trip planning becomes much simpler and far less stressful.
