For many, visiting the likes of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is considered a once-in-a-lifetime experience. An experience that can often seem quite daunting when traveling with a disability. Here at The World is Accessible, we’ve decided to make Rio de Janeiro the first of our accessible group trips and would now proudly like to share with you the full itinerary, finer details, dates, and price. Check out our blockbuster itinerary below!

Day One: Arrival in Rio!

Upon arrival at Galeão International Airport, enjoy a private transfer to the Grand Mercure Hotel where you’ll check in and relax ahead of a delicious complimentary evening meal – offering you a chance to sample Brazilian cuisine. 

 

Pick-up for the evening meal will be at 07:00 pm.


Day 1 includes a Private transfer, an English-speaking guide, and coordinator at the airport arrival area, holding a sign under each passenger’s last name & Welcome dinner.

Day Two: Christ the Redeemer, Selarón, and Cathedral! (8hrs)

Embark on a tour of Rio’s most iconic showpiece, the Christ the Redeemer statue, before heading to the world-famous Selarón Stairs for pictures, and then making our way to the Metropolitan Cathedral.


Pick-up from the hotel will be at 09:00 am.


Day 2 includes a private transfer, an English-Speaking Guide, and Admission Costs to attractions.

Day Three: Botanical Gardens and Sugarloaf Mountain (8hrs)

Discover Rio’s gorgeous Botanical Gardens as we take a stroll amongst the tropical foliage and cool ourselves off in the shade. For those of you who are daring enough, we’ll then make our way to Sugarload Mountain where we will ride the cable care to dizzying heights (don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe and secure). Views of Rio from here are nothing short of spectacular.

Cable Car tickets are not included. They cost R$ 185,00 per person for a regular ticket and R$ 92,00 per person for PWD – in USD this is around $35 and $17.50 respectively.

Pick-up from the hotel will be at 01:00 pm (dinner options are available near Sugarloaf).

Day 3 includes a private transfer, an English-speaking guide, and a Botanical Garden admission ticket.

Day Four: Carnaval Backstage and Historical Tour (6hrs)

Uncover Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival on a tour combining a samba group’s backstage with a historic downtown tour. Immerse yourself in the essence of Rio’s Carnival with this unique experience, exploring the warehouse, a samba class, and all the details of this big annual event, followed by a walking tour from the Plaza XV de Novembro to the Plaza Mauá with our bilingual guide.

 

Pick-up from the hotel will be at 09:00 am.

 

 

Day 4 includes a private transfer, an English-speaking guide, and admission tickets.

Day Five: Day Trip to Cabo Frio (15hrs)

Rise and shine, campers! Today’s going to be an early start. Luckily we finish early on day 4, you’ll need your rest. Day 5 sees us take an excursion to Cabo Frio – an amazing and vibrant city around 4 hrs from Rio. This tour will allow you to take a Catamaran ride and meet the city with a local guide, shop at Bikini Street, and see the incredible Fort Beach and the surf museum.

 

Pick-up from the hotel will be at 06:30 am. 

 

 

Day 5 includes a private transfer, an English-speaking guide, and admission tickets. 

Cabo Frio

Day Six: Beach For All Experience and Arpoador Sunset (8hrs)

Enjoy an accessible day at the beach with Praia Para Todos (Beach For All). This is your chance to soak up the sun and even get in the ocean if you like! With beach chairs, awesome volunteers, and a bunch of other accessible equipment, you’ll love this opportunity to experience Copacabana like never before. 

 

Later, we’ll head back to the hotel for a while before heading back out to watch the sunset at nearby Arpoador Rock, offering unmatched views of Ipanema and Leblon beaches.

 

Pick-up times from the hotel will be 10 am for Beach For All and 4 pm for the Sunset Experience. 

 

Day six includes an Enlish-speaking guide. All activities are within strolling distance of the hotel and the Beach For All experience is FOC.

Day Seven: Maracanã Stadium Tour and Tijuca Park (6hrs)

Brazilian culture (especially in Rio) is all about samba and soccer. By now, you’ve already experienced Rio’s amazing samba culture, so let’s take some time to explore the soccer culture with an amazing tour of the Maracanã Stadium! Later, we’ll take some downtime by taking a walk around the truly stunning Tijuca Park, an incredible National Park in the mountains of the city.

Pick-up time from the hotel will be at 09:00 am.

Day 7 includes a private transfer, an English-speaking guie, and admission tickets. 

Day Eight: Free Day

Ahead of departures on day nine, spend day eight relaxing by the pool or visiting nearby attractions on the trip’s only free day. The team from The World is Accessible plans to head into the center of Rio via Metro. Guests who wish to accompany us would be more than welcome. In the evening, guests will have the option to either meet for drinks or arrange to have a meal together either at the hotel or at a nearby restaurant. Day eight is all about flexibility, as well as relaxing, so it’ll be very much “go with the flow”.

 

No pick-up on day 8. The team will likely depart soon after lunch. 

Day Nine: Departure

After one last hearty Brazilian breakfast, enjoy your final hours in Rio de Janeiro before heading to the airport via our private transfer service.

Pick-up from the hotel will be available all day. 

 

Included on day 9 is a private transfer and an English-speaking guide.
