California has long drawn travelers with its legendary coastlines, laid-back vibes, and endless mix of adventure, culture, and entertainment. Now, the state is taking bold steps to ensure those experiences are more accessible to all — including travelers with disabilities.
To support this mission, Visit California has unveiled a brand-new online Accessibility Hub, a dedicated resource aimed at helping disabled visitors plan and enjoy barrier-free trips across the Golden State.
According to Visit California, the platform was designed to give both travelers and tourism professionals the tools and insights they need to promote and experience inclusive travel. The site features practical guides, curated content, and expert advice, all focused on enhancing accessibility throughout the state.
To spotlight the Accessibility Hub and California’s inclusive travel efforts, Visit California partnered with renowned disability advocate and BAFTA Award-winning TV presenter Sophie Morgan. The result is a new three-part YouTube series titled Joy Diversion, which premiered on July 28.
The unscripted road trip series follows Morgan and her friends as they explore California’s stunning and varied landscapes — from peaceful deserts and alpine lakes to seaside towns and rolling wine country. Through their travels, the show celebrates both the joy of spontaneous adventure and California’s commitment to welcoming all travelers.
The Accessibility Hub also showcases work from respected voices in the disability travel community, including Cory Lee, an award-winning accessible travel writer. His contributions offer valuable first-hand recommendations for accessible accommodations, attractions, and experiences across California.
As California prepares to host major international events like the FIFA World Cup in 2026 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028, its tourism board is working to ensure that visitors of all abilities feel welcome.
While international travel to the U.S. has faced some challenges in recent years, California continues to distinguish itself with a message of openness and inclusivity. In a video shared online, Governor Gavin Newsom encouraged Canadian travelers to consider the Golden State for their next vacation, noting that California offers a unique cultural and social atmosphere distinct from national politics.
Despite shifting global travel trends, California remains the most visited state in the U.S. In 2024, visitors spent an estimated $157.3 billion, supporting jobs, communities, and the state’s position as the fourth-largest economy in the world.
The launch of the Accessibility Hub, along with the inspiring Joy Diversion series, reflects California’s ongoing effort to promote freedom, inclusion, and discovery — values at the heart of its tourism identity.
